Discovering Saint Sauveur

During the summer, there’s no shortage of outdoor activities for visitors. In winter, Mont Saint-Sauveur is one of the largest and brightest ski hills at night across Eastern Canada that’s suitable for all skill levels. But it’s not the only mountain around. For something a little more exotic, festival lovers can take part in the 18th edition of the Auténtica Fiesta Cubana, a wildly popular event orchestrated in collaboration with Cuba Tourism. It’s your chance to discover the lively music, traditions, food and culture that takes over the valley of Saint Sauveur for four sizzling days and nights. When you’ve worked up an appetite, the village doesn’t disappoint with a multitude of shops and over a hundred restaurants with flavours from all over the world. Head to the picturesque rue Principale, a quaint street ideal for weekend strolls featuring plenty of little shops and restaurants to fill your day. 

Here are a few suggestions to put on your to-do list that aim to please: 

Check out Saint-Sauveur’s covered market in front of the village church, where you’ll find a variety of small artisanal shops including: the Pagé bakery, the Fermes du Nord butcher, Gio’s Italian market, the Saint-Sauveur cheese store, the Fumoir des Lacs for smoked fish, and the Rose Bonbon delicatessen. And don’t miss the Brûlerie des Monts just around the corner for  one of the best coffees in the area.

For locally produced organic fruits and vegetables, the S. Bourassa supermarket is the place to go. Love chocolate? Be sure to visit Cotard Chocolatier for original creations from one of the best chocolatiers in the country.

Finally, for a unique gourmet experience, be sure to visit Lola 45, a rustic-chic restaurant offering  refined New Canadian cuisine adapted to each season. It is, by all accounts, THE hottest destination in the Laurentians.
